Why Integrity?

I learned quite a lot this week about how I handle stress and tough situations. School got really rough, I planned a road trip to Utah at an inopportune time, and personal struggles weighed on me. I needed saving and my personal study of the scriptures, as well as, the readings/ videos for this class saved my life.

There was one article in particular that really stood out to me this week. It talked about integrity, which before reading this, I thought I knew what integrity was, but I've realized that I've only begun to understand this word. Sheri Dew suggests seven things that we could do to become men and women of integrity. They are as follows:

1. Decide today, once and for all, that you will be worthy of trust
2. Have faith that the Lord can and will help you, and then diligently seek His help.
3. Make covenants and keep them.
4. Stand up for what you believe.
5. Expect your integrity to be challenged.
6. Don’t give up.
7. Covenant–or perhaps I should say, renew your covenant–with our Father and His Son to do what you came here to do.

These points really hit me hard and helped me realize that I am nowhere close to where I need to be and I've been on a plateau recently in my school/ work. Since reading this article, as well as other readings this week, I have re-evaluated my life, goals, plans, ambitions, and my motives. I am back on the right path and I'm here for the right reasons. I know who I am and what I want.

Lessons Learned:
  • Grandpas are wise and should almost always be listened to
  • God has a perfect plan and we need to remember that on our hard days, and easy days
  • Plans change and that's okay
  • Sometimes you need to take a step back and look at your life from a different perspective
  • Make sure that you have good motives
Love,
Rachel

Focus on the GOOD

This week, I interviewed an entrepreneur that happened to be an old friend of mine. We met before I served my mission and since then, he has sold everything he owns, transferred to BYU-Hawaii, and opened up a food truck. As I was talking with him, I realized a few things that I knew, but hadn't remembered. 1. You have to be ALL IN. Fully focus on your business or else it will suffer 2. Sacrifice is required to have a successful business. He sold everything he had to have enough money to be able to move to Hawaii and open up his food truck, but it was worth it for the experience. 3. Income is not steady. It probably never will be either. It will start off very low and then maybe get really high and then it'll be a journey from there. You have to learn how to invest wisely and always have an emergency fund. I knew when I started down this path of becoming an entrepreneur that it was going to be an adventure, but boy did I not realize how crazy it was going to get. I've ...

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

1. Be proactive 2. Begin with the end in mind 3. Put first things first 4. Think win/win 5. Seek first to understand... then to be understood 6. Synergize 7. Sharpen the saw Habits one-three deal with personal/ private victories. These are the ones that no one sees, but mean the most. They are the foundation for everything that comes after. Habits four-six are the public victories. The seventh is a habit of renewal. For me, the most important one and the one I'm really trying hard to work on is number three. Since coming home from my mission, I've lost track of what really matters in life and what my priorities should be. In this book, there are four categories for this section. They are as follows: 1. Important and Urgent Activities- These include responding to a crisis, pressing problem or tight deadline. Crisis managers and problem-minded people are consumed primarily with this area of time management. 2. Important But Not Urgent Activities- Preventative mainten...

The Greatest Leaders Are the Greatest Followers

"If  I  were  to  ask  you,  “Who  is  the  greatest  leader  who  ever  lived?”—what  would  you  say?  The  answer,  of  course,  is  Jesus  Christ.  He  sets  the  perfect  example  of  every  imaginable  leadership  quality. But  what  if  I  were  to  ask  you,  “Who  is  the  greatest  follower  who  ever  lived?”—wouldn’t  the  answer  again  be  Jesus  Christ?  He  is  the  greatest  leader  because  He  is  the  greatest  follower—He  follows  His  Father  perfectly,  in  all  things." -Stephen W. Owen This week, we read quite a few stories and watched a few videos, and it got me thinking a lot about leadership. Hence...
